the way the white dress is such a key part of emily’s mythology but historically presented in a negative way, eg that it’s the only thing she wore and evidence that she was just a ~mad woman~, whereas in the show it’s framed as an empowering choice, suggested by Death (positively validating her imagination/visions/mental illness) and for the sole purpose of allowing her to live and write (explictly stated as being the same thing for her). and the way that mirrors the obituary sue wrote for emily irl where she emphasizes that staying in her room all the time was not a negative thing either, not a sign of her hating the world or being lonely, but because it was simply the best place for her to do what she did best: write. (seen with the montage, where even the simplest things inspired her).
people are literally so boring a male character will kill 10000 people and steal candy from babies and theyll be like omg thats my king! but a female character is rude once and theyre like i hope she dies violently
